A Bit About Me

Hi, I am Regina Elrod, and I am a fully Licensed Professional Counselor. I am passionate about using my training, skills, and experiences to help clients find the "normalcy" they seek.

With 17 years as a highly-qualified teacher/administrator, 20+ years as an elite-level sports coach, six years of working with men and women in marriage ministry-counseling, and experience as a Adult Mental Health Therapist for a treatment facility, I would provide my clients with sufficient knowledge, experiences, and tools clients will need to reach various goals. I look to help individuals navigate their feelings and experiences, and recognize, cognitive dissonance to teach them strategies to move forward strategically in life and get the changes they need. My experiences bring a unique practical knowledge to counseling.

I transitioned from education to professional counseling from an internal calling to the profession, which sparked the realization that I had had numerous "counseling" sessions with students, parents, and staff over the years. I can empathize in trauma and depression due to my own past. I have come to understand the cognitive and behavioral triggers and effects of emotional pain, questioning troubling situations, and the healing process clients can experience.

There is no magic pill or psychotherapeutic method for healing. Not every therapeutic method works for everyone or everything. It is a dual working process between counselor and client. It takes a person to desire change, a willingness to work with someone and be challenged, and an open mind to discover what can work for them. As a counselor, clients don't have to follow my values and beliefs. Instead, I want to use what you know to find your foundation of truth and work towards your goals. This may involve discussions of various values, beliefs, and truths that exist in this world.

I am not a counselor who just sits and listens....although, I will do a good amount of that. I will ask questions to understand, I will pull out my "shovel" to find the root of an issue, and I will encourage every patient as I discover the good that EVERY human being has within them. There is purpose in every person, there is healing for every person, let's go on this journey and discover your joy.
